Una descripción general: A Hogwarts student needs three magical ingredients in order to practice a summoning spell for an upcoming exam with grouchy Professor Snape.

La Clase:  This story was composed for sixth graders nearing the end of their three-month elective term of Intro to Spanish. (At the end of the trimester, sixth graders move on to a different wheel elective choice.) During this limited time, our focus is on the Super Seven verbs: querer, ir, tener, hay, ser, estar, and gustarse, with a heavy emphasis on cognates and comprehensibility.

El Disfraz: Can I just say that I love wearing this costume? HufflePunk! This costume includes a vest festooned with a Head Girl badge as well as a “Mischief Managed” patch and several pro-Muggle buttons with a white button-up shirt underneath and a yellow striped tie. Grey slacks and black Doc Martens completed the look; I also have a green wand, 14 inches, “whippy” with a core of unicorn hair.

Una fórmula mágica

Hay una estudiante en la escuela de Hogwarts. Hogwarts es una escuela mágica. La estudiante se llama Taya. Ella es una buena estudiante. Ella estudia mucho, porque la magia no es fácil. Taya tiene once años. Ella es de la casa de Ravenclaw, porque ella es muy inteligente.
A Taya no le gusta la clase de pociones con Profesor Snape. Profesor Snape es de mal humor, especialmente cuando los estudiantes no completan la tarea.

Hoy, Taya tiene un examen.
Para la clase de pociones, Taya tiene que hacer una fórmula mágica. La fórmula mágica es para conjurar una basilisco. ¡Pero Taya no tiene todos los ingredientes! Ella tiene solamente la saliva del dragón.
Taya tiene una amiga que se llama Hermione. Hermione es una buena estudiante también. Ella es de la casa de Gryffindor. Taya va a visitar con su amiga.
“Hermione, yo tengo un examen en mi clase de Pociones con Profesor Snape, pero yo no tengo todos los ingredientes,” le dice Taya. Ella está nerviosa, porque no hay mucho tiempo.
“¡Uff!” le dice Hermione. “La tarea de Señor Snape siempre es difícil. ¿Qué necesitas?”
“Necesito el cuerno del unicornio en polvo y también una parte de basilisco en polvo,” Taya le dice.

“Yo tengo el cuerno del unicornio, pero no tengo el basilisco en polvo,” le dice Hermione.
“¡Gracias!” le dice Taya. Ella tiene mucha gratitud para la ayuda de su amiga.

Taya va a visitar con su amigo Dean. Dean juega Quidditch en el parque.
“Dean,” le dice Taya. “¿Tienes el basilisco en polvo?” le dice Taya.
“Sí,” le dice Dean. “¿Por qué?”
“Tengo un examen con Profesor Snape,” le dice Taya. “¡Estoy muy estresado!”
“¡Ai-yi-yi!” le dice Dean. “Aquí es. ¡Buena suerte con el examen!”
Taya tiene todos los ingredientes. Ella va a su dormitorio para practicar la fórmula mágica.

At this point in the lesson, we exited the classroom and went to a science lab I had reserved for the day. The student portraying the main character was given a “spell” and used the ingredients collected from other students to practice “magic”, found here. 

Basically, we set stuff (safely) on fire. It was great!
